Handwoven Lap Blanket
"Floating Windows"
Add this beautiful hand crafted blanket to your home. Snuggle up around the fire, at the camp or with a good book!
Created from 100% farm raised wool. Milled into yarn, dyed and woven all within the Canadian Maritimes. You can't find anything more local than that.
This blanket measures 32"x60" with fringe on either end.
The warp is made of natural white and fawn/grey wool. Paired with stripes of hand painted yarn in shades of handspun blue, greys, demin blue, periwinkle and a few others.
"Floating Windows" was designed in our studio to showcase different colours of wool. I took inspiration from an old photo hanging on our wall. The photo shows 3 children, watching a house floating by, floating from one bay to another. While this photo was taken in 1961, many of my families were forced to move their homes on boats. Small fishing communities were closing and their only option was to start over to find a way to take their homes with them. From one way to another.
They represent resilience, hardship and new beginnings. While also finding the good in the situation and making it work for you. Because there's always another bay.
Handwash, lay flat to dry.
